Charity BUNKO and Gift Exchange

Mark your calendars for Friday, January 8, 2010 – 7PM

          Bring a $10 donation and a wrapped $10 Gift

**It’s okay to re-gift - maybe you received 2 of the same thing, or already had that item, or perhaps you found an awesome bargain at an after-Christmas sale. Wrap it so that it entices someone to select it and who knows maybe someone else will steal it from them, and even someone else may steal it again.

The Holidays will be over and what a better way to unwind: Socialize with the neighborhood gals, eat, drink, play Bunco, donate to charity and participate in a fun gift exchange.

 Place: 3335 Piazza Lane

Hosted by: Kathie Duame and Jeanne Wojcieszak

Note: Last year we were able to make a $200 donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with a matching $200 donation. Let’s see if we can beat that amount this year.

11/28/09                                         Update from the HOA President

Neighbors,

As I am sure you have notices the front entrance is finally complete! The Christmas lights are also up and look great!

While the timing was not what any of us wanted it is good to get this project behind us.

I want to personally acknowledge and thank Trudy Grimm and the landscape committee for the hard work and time put into this project. The final product looks great. Without Trudy I am not sure we would have gotten this far.  Thanks Trudy.

During our annual meeting a number of residents expressed concern over leasing/renting decorations. The continued cost of leasing did not seem like a best value for our HOA. The decorations that are up now have been purchased. The up front costs of the purchase were within our budget and included install. The installation will be significantly less than leasing with the only additional fees being maintenance of the lights if and when needed. The Krapf family will provide the storage for the lights - Thanks to Jason and Jennifer for helping us out.

My focus for the first quarter of this new board was to get the front entrance finished. Not as quickly as I thought but at least it's done.

My focus for the next quarter is to work on the details of running the HOA. This includes Attorney and Accounting support. As bylaws change or insurance needs change or laws governing HOA change we will need appropriate council. Setting up the processes for council including retainers will be the work for the board over the next few months. The costs associated with this work were outlined in our 2010 budget.

Finally, I want to address and align to clear ownership of the common areas with VDI to include maintenance and standards. We need clarity on what areas are owned and by whom. We have a number of areas that are not at the standard I am sure anyone wants. This includes some of the open lots, water shed areas, and small stub streets that dead end into the fields. These areas should be maintained to an acceptable level and in line with the standards of our sub-division. This will be our work later in the year.

I hope you all agree that the work to date is an improvement.

Best Regards,

Don Ruddy

Holiday Lighting                                                    11/22/09

 All:

The lights have been ordered and purchased. The decorations and lights will be turned at dusk on the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 27, 2009.

Work will start on Tuesday, November 24 and run thru Wednesday, November 25, 2009. If necessary, work could also continue during the day on Friday, November 27, 2009. Lights for trees, pre-lit wreaths and most other supplies are in stock from the vendor. The pre-lit garland is coming from the KC warehouse and should arrive in Edwardsville on Tuesday, November 24,
2009. Worst case scenario is it would arrive on Wednesday, November 25 and thus, be completed during the day on Friday, November 27, 2009.

Due to worker safety concerns, 4 Leaf will block one entrance/exit side at a time while lights above the subdivision sign are put up. A crew member will be stationed on both ends of the blocked side to warn and direct drivers.  Also, due to electrical safety concerns, 4 Leaf will not put up lights if it is raining or storming.  Drivers, please take extra caution during this time.
Thank you.

Trudy Grimm

Update on the Front Entrance                                     11/12/09

Neighbors,
The light upgrade is complete for the arch lights.  A dimmer was installed and the 120V lights were replaced with 130V lights.  the combination should net us longer service.
The landscaping is moving quickly now.  The landscaping company has stated that they will be done by this Friday.
Thanks again for your patience.  In the end I believe we will have a much improved entrance.

Neighbors,

As you have seen we have started the landscaping project at the front entrance. The project has been hampered by the poor weather but has started. We expect completion in the next week.
The electrician that installed the light posts in the center islands inspected our entrance light system and found the current to be acceptable. He recommended some changes in the type of bulbs we use and installation of a dimmer that would further reduce the voltage. The board has begun debate over this topic. If anyone has additional thoughts or experience in lighting please send them to me and I can pass them on to the board.

Many thanks to our Social Committee chairs, Jenny Byron and Karen Marcus, as well as Fabia Krug, Emily Leach, Angie Petera and Samantha Sponeman for organizing and hosting the 2nd Annual Ebbets Field Halloween Party and Chili Lunch.  The weather was good, the food was good, and everyone had a good time!

Don Ruddy, our HOA president has written a message to the neighbors on the board's goals and the front entrance.  Click here to read it.

Caution! Drive carefully.

Street lights, sprinkler system and related electrical work has been completed on the islands and front entrance.  Due to the amount of rain we have experienced in the last two weeks, the landscaping is running about 5-7 days behind schedule.  Weather permitting, the landscaping should begin by the end of next week and last about 5 days.  Please continue to drive cautiously in these areas.

Update on problems with lights above the 'Ebbets Field' entrance sign

There is an electrical problem that is causing the bulbs to constantly burn out at a faster than average rate. An electrician is currently working on the problem and bulbs will be replaced and/or other corrective measures will be taken pending the results of the electrical analysis.

The first meeting of the Homeowners Association Board of Directors will be held on Wednesday, October 14th at 7:00 p.m. at Alfonso's in Maryville.  Residents are welcome to attend.

New speed limits OK'd

City Council members in Edwardsville passed an amendment without dissent to its speed restriction ordinance Tuesday, paving the way for a reduction on all city streets to 25 mph unless otherwise posted.

“This is a step forward,” Council member Janet Haroian said, calling it the first step in the process.

Council members are expected to revisit the ordinance in a subsequent meeting to decide exactly which city streets officials believe should be set, or remain, at 30 mph.

The amendment to the city’s speed restriction ordinance passed its first reading at the Council’s July 23 meeting following a review by the ACS Committee the week before.

Edwardsville Police Chief James Bedell told council members earlier that he does not anticipate implementing the new limits until November, as they will need to conduct speed studies to determine if a particular street meets the requirement for a change.

Councilman Rich Walker said he was looking forward to passing the ordinance, as he believes it will bring needed improvement in the consistency of speed limits between subdivisions.

“This will certainly help out enforcement,” Walker said.

Haroian, who presided over the meeting in Mayor Gary Niebur's absence, also pointed to a reduction in costs to the city, by reducing the number of signs which ultimately will need to be posted.

Council member Barb Stamer questioned how the city would inform residents who may not know of the change and whether it would require signage at the entrances to some neighborhoods.

Haroian said some areas would be addressed and that the city’s options for informing people, in addition to reports in the general media, including the city’s Web site (http://www.cityofedwardsville.com/) and cable TV station ECTV.
